Camp Kintail Retreat Report from The Cozy Quilter

This post features my projects from last weekend's Crafters retreat at Camp Kintail, but first I want to show you my finished Fall cross stitch...TaDa!  I started this project at the beginning of September and have added stitches to it steadily until this week, when I added the last few.  As I have said before, I love the transparency where the trees overlap and the bright colours in this picture.  I will have it framed shortly and hang it up for the Fall next year.   I have a couple of embroidery kits that I would like to work ...

Round Robin Reveal from The Cozy Quilter

Back in the Spring, I asked three quilting friends if they would like to participate in a Round Robin project with me.  They all said yes!  Each of us provided a block and a bag or bin of fabrics that we wanted used in our quilt.  We also provided some brief instructions regarding finished size, etc.  Today, we got together at Carol's house for tea, snacks and the big reveal.

This is Katharine.  She wanted a table runner for a piece of furniture in her house.  The colours she chose came from some figurines that are to be displayed ...

Hand Stitching from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It seems as if a lot of water has flowed under the bridge since the last time we talked. When I left you on Friday, I was preparing to take Eliza in for a spa treatment. That turned into practically an all-day affair. We dropped off the machine, but I'd left the bobbin casing at home. The technician said it was better to adjust the tension if they had the bobbin casing. I said I'd go home, get it, and bring it back, but whoa. That was quite a journey. It's an hour ...

Full Force Fall from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a busy day yesterday. During the presidential campaign, I was amused when Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania said, "My team is guided by three letters every single day: G-S-D." And, if you missed that, he spelled it out..."Getting sh*t done." When I can cross everything off a day's to-do list, I announce it to Mike: "I got sh*t done today." Admittedly, I didn't start sewing together the Merry, Merry Snowmen yesterday, but I got a lot of other stuff done.

First, I finished off My Embroidered Garden.

A Couple of Finishes! from The Cozy Quilter

I worked on several different projects this week and two were brought to the finish line.  I quilted and bound the winter wall hanging that I showed last week.  This will be donated to a silent auction fundraiser.  It is walking foot quilted with white thread in the white sections and blue thread in the coloured sections.

I added a hanging sleeve. You can see the quilting pattern better on the back.

Of course, I had leftover HST's so started another project with those.  It is not quite done and will likely be a Christmas gift for someone so ...

Sunny Skies from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Gee, it's nice to see some blue sky and sunshine. It was a nice day yesterday, and it's looking like it will be a nice day again today. I was able to get outside for a while. The last dahlia is cut back now. I'd hoped some of the other buds might open, but they were still in tight green marbles when I looked at it. No chance they'll bloom before the first frost sets in.

The only thing to do now is to look forward to spring when things will start ...

Winter Wallhanging, and Some Slow Stitching from The Cozy Quilter

It's been a busy week with lots of commitments, which means I didn't get a lot of sewing done.   My hand quilting project is coming along.  After I finish the cross hatching, I will add more quilting to each block.

I found a winter 5" charm pack in my sewing room and decided to make a wall hanging with it. The white on white snowflake fabric was also in my stash and pairs nicely with the charms. I made lots of HST's and then arranged them in a barn raising pattern on the design wall.  I am ...

Home from the Guild Retreat from The Cozy Quilter

I just got home from our guild quilt retreat about an hour ago and decided to share some of my projects on my blog.  First up, handwork!  Christine and I watched the World Series  baseball games on the Friday and Saturday nights and  while we watched, we did some cross stitch.  She worked on her Halloween project and I added more stitches to my Fall trees. We had hoped for a different winner of the Championship but it was not to be this year.

I also did some hand quilting at the retreat --more diagonal lines have been added to ...

Prep Work from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We had another day of rain...some wind, but not as much as we expected. Mike tells me the storm came at us from the south. Since we're just over the crest of our hill on the north side of the mountain, we had a bit of shelter from the wind. Once again, Sadie gave an excellent demonstration on how to spend a wet and windy day. She is an expurrt at this.

My morning was spent in the usual way...with a little slow-stitching.

There were a couple of easy household chores to do ...

Back to Hand Quilting from The Cozy Quilter

I have a collection of completed quilt tops waiting to be quilted.  Sometimes, I just don't have inspiration on how to quilt them and other times, I just don't have time.  This week, one of them yelled "pick me" for hand quilting so I got started.  This pineapple log cabin was one of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts a few year ago.  Each block is foundation pieced on a printed fabric so the finished quilt will have three layers of fabric as well as batting.  I am big stitch quilting it with gray 28wt thread.  I am starting ...

What's Going On? from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! A lot of water has passed under the bridge since we chatted last time. It's been a busy couple of days. We've been fortunate to have a couple of days of good weather. When I left you on Friday, I was getting ready to have a late breakfast with Matthew. Before I left, I had a good start on the 3rd Tiny Treasure. It has about a zillion French knots, and so it was about three sittings to finish it off. The face, ears, and tail are done in a stem stitch fill. The ...

World's Slowest Knitter Award! from The Cozy Quilter

I bought the wool for this scarf while on vacation in Newfoundland in June of 2023. I started knitting it in November of 2023 and finished it today.  I may win the World's Slowest Knitter Award!  I worked at it in fits and starts...I don't think knitting is my first love as far as hobbies are concerned.  I am very pleased with how it turned out.  I like how soft and warm it feels and the texture of the knitting.  The colours will go well with by black winter coat.  I've already made the matching hat ...

Sewing Before Quilting from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Before I could do anything else yesterday morning, I had to fix that dratted block for the Kittens in Teacups quilt. It was bothering me even though we were in separate rooms.

Phew! I feel better now, don't you?

Okay, and so then and only then, I could do some work on my slow stitching. I stitched my usual amount of floss.

And then, I decided to move my hoop to the right to encompass the rest of the opening to the bridge. Where so many lines intersect, I like to do all the lines ...

More Trees and Placemats from The Cozy Quilter

More stitches were added to my Fall Forest cross stitch project this week. I like the transparency effect where the trees overlap. This picture is coming along quickly--luckily, I bought two Autumn themed patterns at the same time so I have something else to work on when this is done.

My goal is to make 12 placemats for Meals on Wheels and I now have 10 finished.  The last two are quilted and just need to have the binding sewn on.   These two placemats are the same, top and bottom.  I like to make them so they can be used ...
